Terrorists, who abducted 176 women and children from the Woro community in Kaiama Local Council of Kwara State, have threatened to carry out a mass execution if the Nigerian government fails to meet their demands within one week.

The attackers, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect, reportedly issued the ultimatum after a Jumu’ah prayer session on Friday, according to community members and families who spoke to newsmen.

The traditional ruler of the community, Salihu Bio, whose wife is among those being held captive, confirmed the threat to journalists.

He explained that one of the abductees was allowed to contact her family and relay the message from the terrorists.

Bio added that the bandits expressed frustration over what they described as the government’s lack of commitment to negotiations, despite the resources being used to keep the victims alive.

“The terrorists allowed one of the abductees to call her family on Saturday, and she confirmed that they were all fine. She also said the captors have been teaching them Arabic and Islamic knowledge,” he said.

A community source, who did not want to be named, painted a grimmer picture of the terrorists’ intentions, saying the captors had threatened to marry off some of the girls and kill those they considered liabilities if no agreement is reached within the deadline.

In a video released by the terrorists, an armed militant claimed responsibility for the abduction and described the victims as having been indoctrinated.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the police were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, did not receive a response at press time.

ALSO, suspected Boko Haram insurgents have invaded Dapchi, the headquarters of Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to reports, the assailants stormed the community on Monday at about 11p.m.

According to a resident, who pleaded anonymity and spoke from an undisclosed location, “Boko Haram terrorists invaded our community yesterday at about 11p.m. They burnt three telecommunication masts, a police station, a hospital ambulance, and a primary healthcare facility, carted away motorcycles, and snatched phones from locals.”

He said the assailants spent three hours operating in the town unchallenged.

As at press time, the Army and police were yet to issue official statements on the reported attack.

This is the second time terrorists have attacked the community in less than a month, with the last onslaught occurring on April 4, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for the killing of at least 29 people on Sunday in Guyaku community, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The terror group claimed the attack on its Telegram channel, according to Reuters.

Residents said the terrorists targeted youths and spectators whogathered at a local football pitch in the community.
