1John 4: 7-8, “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love”
LOVE is the greatest law Almighty God bequeathed to mankind. The practice of this law brings peace and blessings of God. Every created being is a product of love because the Creator Himself is love personified. This means that anybody who does not have love is not a genuine representative of the Creator. In the absence of love, there is no God in you. Love is a demonstration of the presence of God in us. If we claim we are of God, we must love one another.

Where there is no love, anxiety exists. The absence of love in a family causes strife, rancour, bitterness, hatred and all the things that make for war. In a country, Church, organisation or family where there is much hatred, development is always impeded and there will be no meaningful achievement by the leadership. There is no way we can practise godliness without love.

Love is the wheel of progress in a family or country. It is the foundation of all greatness. That is why great countries such as Great Britain, United States of America, South Korea and Australia among others are standing tall in the comity of nations. No matter what a citizen of these countries does, the home country will always stand by his side with love.

Mtt. 22:37-40, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

The love we have for one another has its foundation from the love of God and the love of God is found in the love of our neighbour. We, therefore, owe one another what we have a right to expect from them. That is why the Scripture expresses “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise” (Lk 6: 31)

This is the golden rule by which we should speak, think, write and do everything in this world. Love is the law God uses to bind us together. By this rule, we are taught to bear with one another, forgive one another, rejoice in one another’s felicity, mourn in his adversity, desire and delight in his prosperity, help him in his weakness, and risk even our life for his sake. This is the religion of Jesus and the world will be happy, if the principle of love is observed and obeyed.

1Cor.13: 4-7 says, “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”

Love is essential in the life of every person who says he knows God, particularly a Christian. And that is why we said it is the greatest. Anybody that has no love cannot claim to have God in him because God is love.

Love makes for forgiveness. If you have love, you will forgive easily. You cannot see evil in the life of someone you love. If you love your wife, no matter what she does, you will not see evil in it. In fact, when you do not love, you are bound to fault whatever the other does. If he laughs, you will misconstrue it to be as a result of his wickedness. But love will not allow you to see evil in your friend.

Beloved, let us show love to our friends, neighbours, wives, husbands and even our enemies so that the peace of God shall reign in our country and He shall make abundant blessings for us in Jesus name.
