A renowned industrialist and an elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, yesterday, said that he would have solved Nigeria’s problems if he had become the president of the country after his attempts, which according to him, costs him financial fortunes.

This was as he also announced his 43 years exit from partisan politics, stressing that the decision was to pave way for younger leaders whom he had groomed and mentored to carry on with his legacies and political philosophy.

Iwuanyanwu, a revered politician and currently Chairman, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Council of Elders, said this at a press conference heralding his 79th birthday anniversary in Owerri.

He said: “I ventured into politics and actually aspired for the office of the President of Nigeria thrice with the hope of fixing Nigeria one day. Unfortunately, providence was not on my side to be President of Nigeria.”

The former Board of Trustees member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who reiterated his backing for the rotational presidency and state police, also insisted that “restructuring Nigeria was panacea to political stability in the country.”

“It is our view that the presidency should now be rotational and zoning should now be enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Implementation of the federal character in all other political positions at the national level and in all appointments and employments would then further give every Nigerian a sense of belonging in the Nigerian project.”

“Until the security system is restructured to allow indigenous people get power to defend their territories, we might never see Nigeria advancing in military intelligence.

“State policing will also help the local people gather local intelligence to be able to fish out criminals from their midst as it will involve indigenous people in its formations.

“I want to re-affirm my earlier statement that a restructured Nigeria is amply endowed to be one of the leading countries in the world. I, therefore, appeal to all Nigerians to love one another irrespective of tribe, ethnicity or creed and work towards a one united Nigeria,” he added.
