Burglars at the weekend broke into the Akure, Ondo State, office of Air Peace Airline, carting away millions of naira in ticket sales, and items belonging to staff.

The matter has been reported to the police. Staff discovered the theft when they resumed work on Monday.

An employee who pleaded anonymity said: “It was surprising. We came to the office on Monday morning and discovered that the vault has been stolen. The money was part of proceeds from tickets. The thieves came through the window and the back door to carry out the operation. The money in question was in the safe, because we could not get to the bank at late hours. We still don’t know how they entered here and operated freely with no challenge from the security guards.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, confirmed the matter. He dispelled speculations that the incident was an armed robbery operation. He noted that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime and were providing information.

“It is true that we received a report that some hoodlums broke into the office of Air Peace Airline at the local airport at the Oba-Ile area of Akure. Our intelligence findings showed that the hoodlums carried out the operation in a well-coordinated plan, as neither the door nor the windows of the office were broken. We have started investigation and some staff of the airline have been invited for interrogation,” he said.
