Prior to the election, Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State, was enmeshed in controversy.
His primary and secondary education. Health status and alleged drug links provided fodder for conspiracy theories.
He weathered these claims to win the presidential election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said he polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat his co-contenders, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 6,984,520, and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, who got 6,101,533 votes.
