Three police officers, others die in Kebbi road crash
Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed death of three officers in a motor accident. The Command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, who confirmed the incident in a statement, yesterday, said the incident, which involved a bank bullion van, four other vehicles and a motorcycle, happened along Argungu/Birnin Kebbi road.
He said the accident occurred when a Carina E car, carrying Jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) had a head on collision with the Bullion van at Jeda village, burst into flames and consumed three other cars.
“Consequently, a total of five vehicles and one motorcycle were burnt to ashes. Six people, including three policemen also died in the inferno, while five people, three policemen who sustained injuries were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, for medical attention.
“ On receipt of the report, the state Commissioner of Police, , (CP) Ahmed Magaji Kontagora swiftly rushed to the scene where he assured members of the public of a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“He also condoled with the families of the deceased, praying to the Almighty Allah to grant the lives of the departed souls eternal rest and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.
