
Police in Abia State have apprehended three suspects in connection with the murder of an elderly couple in Bende Local Council. Mr Udo Jacob, 78, and Mrs Dorcas Jacob, 73, were found dead in their compound at Etiti-ulo in a pool of blood.
ASP Maureen Chinaka, spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the murder was reported to the Bende Divisional Headquarters on October 2.
Initial investigations revealed several items were stolen from the couple’s home.
“Three suspects have been arrested in connection with this heinous crime and are currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia,” Chinaka said.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Danladi Isa, expressed concern over the tragic incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crime and ensure swift justice.
Governor Alex Otti, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, expressed sadness over the tragic news and condemned the brutal act. He disclosed that the state is working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice and has directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.
“The governor is deeply saddened by this criminal and dastardly act and commiserates with the victims’ families on behalf of the state government,” Ukoha said.
