Timi Frank to Wike: Stop insulting political elders
Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to cease his public insults towards political elders and veterans if he hopes to attain similar respect and status in the future.
Frank’s remarks follow a series of verbal attacks by Wike targeting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, former Rivers Governor Dr Peter Odili, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Frank emphasised the need for decorum and respect, regardless of political differences. “Wike needs thorough soul-searching, character, and mental re-examination. Acts of gross disrespect should not be hidden behind political exigencies,” Frank said.
Frank expressed dismay at Wike’s behaviour, accusing him of targeting those who played crucial roles in his political ascent. “Because he looks older than his age should not make him believe he is in the same age bracket as Peter Odili, Uche Secondus, and others he now takes pleasure in insulting,” Frank said.
He further added, “No normal and sensible person would insult elders like Wike has done except they are under the influence of intoxicants or other harmful psychotropic substances. Wike is praying to attain age 80 and above someday, but if he doesn’t stop his current disdain and disregard for older statesmen, he will reap what he sows.”
Frank also criticised Wike for his continued interference in Rivers State politics, accusing him of stifling development since his departure as governor. “Since his exit, Wike has not given Governor Fubara breathing space,” he said, urging Wike to leave Rivers State alone and allow the current administration to focus on governance.
Frank offered some pointed advice for Wike, suggesting he seek professional guidance to improve his public discourse. “We further advise Wike to engage the services of a speech therapist to train him in the art of modern public speaking. Otherwise, President Tinubu will soon be his next target for insults once he feels he is no longer benefiting from him,” Frank warned.
He concluded by noting Wike’s history of turning against benefactors who have supported his rise, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife Patience Jonathan, and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Frank’s comments highlight growing concerns about Wike’s political conduct, with many observers warning that his actions could harm his legacy and relationships within Nigeria’s political landscape.
