President Bola Tinubu has appointed 39-year-old Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new chairman/chief executive officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Ramat, an electrical engineer and administrator, holds a PhD in Strategic Management and other professional qualifications.
A statement issued yesterday by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said the President also nominated two commissioners to join the NERC leadership, all subject to Senate confirmation.
They are Mr Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Dr Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.
To prevent a leadership vacuum at the commission, the President directed Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity pending Senate screening, in line with legal provisions.
President Tinubu charged the appointees to bring their expertise to bear in driving the administration’s vision for reform and efficiency in the power sector.
Ramat, who had served as chairman of Ungogo Local Council Area in Kano State from 2021 to 2024, will assume office in an acting capacity until he is confirmed by the Senate.
