The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has advocated urgent infrastructural development to revamp the nation’s ailing economy.

Tinubu, who stated this at the 25th Lagos State University (LASU) convocation yesterday, expressed concern over the present state of the economy, stressing that the nation has remained locked in a place.

The APC leader, represented by Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, noted: “We need massive infrastructure plan. No national economy can grow beyond the capacity of its infrastructure to service the economy. Portable water should be readily available in our cities. Electrical power is the fulcrum of our development. We must enact reforms necessary to power business and homes at affordable prices. Firms in the sector must work for as much for the public good as for private gain.”

Tinubu, who also spoke on “Global Trends: The Rightful Place of Nigeria in the world,” said there was need for government to support industries that would employ large numbers of young people .

He said that government’s backing of manufacturing and industry would open the door wide to youths-owned start-up businesses.
Besides, he said there was need to increase food production while lowering consumer prices, advising that commodity exchange boards need to be reinstated.

In her speech, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, urged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the school.

Also, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, advised the graduating students to acquire necessary skills that would enable them fit for challenges of the 21st century.

Meanwhile, honorary doctorate degrees were conferred on business mogul, Goodie Ibru; Chairperson of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa; Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Ganduje; Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum and former Chairman of First Bank, Mrs. Ibukunola Awosika.

Former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola, was also conferred with professor emeritus.
