President Bola Tinubu has stated that the ongoing execution of critical infrastructure projects across the country signifies a rebirth of Nigeria’s development vision, one rooted in inclusion, empowerment, and indigenous capacity.
Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the dualised and upgraded 16.4-kilometre Ushafa, War College/Army Checkpoint Road and ancillary roads in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Tinubu said the projects represent more than just physical development; they embody a new era of national renewal.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President noted that his administration’s infrastructure rollout is aimed at connecting communities, boosting economic activity, and creating opportunities that speak to the dignity and potential of every Nigerian.
“This is not just a road project, it is a symbol of our resolve to renew Nigeria. We have transformed a path of frustration into a corridor of opportunity,” he declared.
“These roads will ease traffic, enhance access to healthcare and education, and inject new life into economic activities across Ushafa, Bwari, and surrounding communities.”
Tinubu emphasised that awarding the project to an indigenous contractor was a deliberate step to demonstrate confidence in Nigerian professionals and businesses.
“We are not just building roads, we are building capacity, creating jobs, and nurturing pride within our communities,” he said. “With the right environment, Nigerian contractors can deliver world-class infrastructure.”
He added that the infrastructure projects being delivered nationwide serve as a foundation for sustainable growth, while also reinforcing his administration’s commitment to empowering local expertise and stimulating inclusive development.
FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, described the ongoing wave of infrastructure commissioning in the territory as unprecedented. According to him, the renewed focus on satellite towns reflects the President’s deep concern for equitable development across all segments of the capital.
“Today’s commissioning marks a turning point in the development of the FCT’s outlying communities. These roads will not only open up Bwari but also change the economic trajectory of the entire council,” Wike stated, praising the contractor’s professionalism and delivery.
Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, also hailed the leadership of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, noting that their commitment is rewriting the story of the satellite towns.
“These projects are reshaping the FCT and restoring faith in government. This is a new chapter of growth, opportunity, and connectivity for our people,” she said.
The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, commended the administration for prioritising the development of suburban communities, stressing that residents of the area are feeling the impact of governance.
The commissioned project includes the dualisation of the 16.4 km Ushafa–War College/Army Checkpoint Road and adjoining ancillary roads in Bwari Area Council.
Among dignitaries present at the event were Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, Senator David Jimkuta; Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia; former Governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Chibudom Nwuche; and Senators George Sekibo, Philip Aduda, and Mao Ohuabunwa.
