Nigeria’s first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu yesterday empowered 1000 pre-selected Delta women with N100,000 grants to recapitalize and grow their business.

Speaking while disbursing the grants at the RHI Economic Empowerment program Recapitalization Grants for 1000 Women Petty Traders, in Asaba, Mrs. Tinubu explained that
the grants would provide the needed impetus to assist the women petty traders in overcoming some of their business challenges.

She informed the women that the gesture was meant to cushion the effects of the petty traders who are faced with challenges in their Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

The petty traders, she said, form the backbone of the nation’s local economies, and should not be left alone to face these challenges.

According to her, the money is also expected to expand their businesses, create more jobs, and contribute more robustly to the nation’s economy.

“Economic empowerment remains a core objective of the Renewed Hope Initiative and we have consistently delivered on this promise for both women and youth across the six geopolitical zones to support the economic reforms of the administration of Mr. President because we recognize that empowering women economically is not just a moral imperative but a strategic one,” Mrs. Tinubu said.

“To the 1000 women petty traders who are the beneficiaries of this programme, I say, “You are the heart of our local economies, the foundation of our communities, and the unsung heroes of our nation.

“You have shown incredible resilience in overcoming countless challenges to build your businesses; so let us all continue to work together to build a Nigeria where every woman has the opportunity to succeed, where every small business can grow and contribute to our nation’s prosperity.”

The wife of Delta State governor, Mrs. Otobori Oborevweri, applauded Oluremi Tinubu for launching the program in Delta, even as she commended her husband, Sherriff Oborevweri for committing N50m to the programme in the State.
