Tinubu Mourns former anti-graft czar, Ibrahim Lamorde
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the family of Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, who passed away at the age of 61.
Mr. Lamorde, a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, was the pioneer Director of Operations and served as the third substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from 2012 to 2015.
President Tinubu also extended his sympathies to Mr. Lamorde’s associates, the EFCC, the Nigeria Police Force, and the government and people of Adamawa State.
In a statement issued by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the President prayed for the repose of Mr. Lamorde’s soul and comfort for his family.
Mr. Lamorde was appointed as the pioneer Director of Operations when the EFCC was established in 2003. In December 2007, he became Acting Chairman, a position he held until Mrs. Waziri was appointed Chairperson and confirmed by the Senate in June 2008. Mr. Lamorde returned to the EFCC as Director of Operations in December 2010, replacing Stephen Otitoju, the then Acting Director of Operations.
When Mrs. Waziri was replaced on November 23, 2011, Mr. Lamorde, then an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), was appointed Acting Chairman.
He was confirmed as substantive Chairman of the EFCC on February 15, 2012, a role he held until November 9, 2015, when President Buhari replaced him with Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman of the EFCC.
