Tinubu orders FEC committee to crash food prices

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to move swiftly and implement measures to further reduce food prices across the country.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed this, yesterday, during a capacity-building workshop for Senate correspondents in Abuja.

According to him, the directive focuses on ensuring the safe passage of farm produce across transport routes to cut logistics costs. Abdullahi said the plan was tied to Tinubu’s broader vision of food sovereignty—beyond availability to ensure affordability, accessibility, and nutrition on a sustainable basis.

He said that the government is set to roll out a farmer soil health scheme to boost productivity and a revamped cooperative reform initiative to mobilise resources and empower rural farmers.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has called on the President to urgently implement the Supreme Court judgment granting full autonomy to local councils.

This is contained in a communiqué signed by President-General of NULGE, Aliyu Kankara, at the end of the union’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

According to the communiqué, the NEC-in-session urged the government to take immediate steps toward implementing the judgment without further delay.

The NULGE, however, condemned the seizure of allocations to local councils in Osun State, describing the action as unjust and detrimental to grassroots development.

It expressed concern over the non-implementation of the national minimum wage in some states, describing the failure as callous and unfair, especially given the current harsh economic realities.

The NEC further called on the Federal Government to intervene in the Osun political crisis and ensure immediate restoration of the withheld council allocations in the interest of peace, justice, and sustainable development.
