President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday evening returned to Abuja, bringing to a close his stay in Lagos where he observed the Eid-el-Fitr festivities and held a series of high-level engagements following his recent state visit to the United Kingdom.
The President departed Lagos aboard the presidential aircraft from the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:44 pm, marking his return to the nation’s capital after several days of official and private activities.
Tinubu’s return to Abuja is expected to signal a resumption of full official duties, as the administration continues to navigate pressing economic reforms, security concerns and political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President had arrived Nigeria in the early hours of Friday after what officials described as a historic visit to the United Kingdom, where he held bilateral talks aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic and security ties between both countries.
His return coincided with preparations for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, which marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
In Lagos, the President joined Muslim faithful for Eid prayers at the Dodan Barracks, reinforcing his long-standing ties to the state where he previously served as governor.
Beyond the religious observance, the President’s Lagos stay also featured a flurry of political and economic consultations.
He received no fewer than 23 state governors in separate meetings, including Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, in what insiders described as strategic discussions ahead of key national and party developments.
Among other prominent visitors was Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, alongside a delegation from the European Union and members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the apex political decision-making body of the ruling party in the state.
Vice President Kashim Shettima also travelled to Lagos during the period to brief the President on his recent visit to Borno State, particularly in the aftermath of a suicide bombing incident, underscoring ongoing federal efforts to address security challenges in the North-East.
At the Presidential Wing of the airport to see him off were Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.
Also present were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, alongside top government officials and party stalwarts.
