The Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CONGOS) on Monday tasked Muslim faithful to remain steadfastness in fasting, prayer, and acts of charity exemplify the virtues of discipline, sacrifice, and devotion after the successful completion of the sacred month of Ramadan.

The group also called on President Bola Tinubu and the Edo State government to embrace proactive measures to prevent wanton loss of human lives in Edo State.

Speaking with newsmen, Director of Publicity, Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CONGOS) Mallam Ibrahim Momoh made the call during the celebration of Eid-el-Fitri in Benin.

Momoh said the virtues of discipline, sacrifice, and devotion that Ramadan teaches are key for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians just as he congratulated all Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the sacred month of Ramadan.

He called on government at all levels, security agencies particularly the Nigerian Police, to ensure justice is served on the killing of innocent Muslim travelers passing through Uromi, Edo State, en route to Kano, praying for the repose of their souls .

“As we join you in celebrating this blessed day, we urge you to imbibe and uphold the timeless lessons of Ramadan compassion, forgiveness, generosity, and unity. Let these values guide our actions as we strive to build a society rooted in peace, justice, and mutual respect,” he said.

“We also take this moment to commiserate with the families and loved ones of the victims of the recent tragic incident involving fasting Muslim travelers passing through Uromi, Edo State, en route to Kano. This heinous act of violence is deeply saddening and unacceptable.

“We pray for the repose of their souls and call on relevant authorities ,Federal and State Government as well as the security services particularly the Nigerian Police, to ensure justice is served while taking proactive measures to prevent such wanton loss of human life and livelihoods in the future.

“CONGOs also uses this opportunity to sue for peaceful coexistence among all communities in Edo State and Nigeria at large. May this Eid serve as a reminder of our shared humanity and inspire us to work together toward economic development, social harmony, and the overall well-being of all citizens.

“As we celebrate, let us also remember those in need and extend a helping hand wherever possible. May Allah’s blessings bring joy to your homes, peace to our land, and prosperity to our nation.”
