Tinubu will sustain PAP, minister assures N’Delta

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris

Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, has assured the people of the Niger Delta that President Bola Tinubu will continue to support the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).
Idris spoke at the PAP interactive session with its foreign scholarship beneficiaries organised in London by the PAP Administrator, Dr Dennis Otuaro, on the sidelines of the President Tinubu’s state visit to the United Kingdom on Wednesday.

This was just as the PAP foreign scholarship beneficiaries presented an Award of Appreciation to the President for strongly supporting the programme, which had resulted in the large-scale onshore and offshore deployments of beneficiaries for various undergraduate and post-graduate studies.

Idris, who received the award on behalf of President Tinubu at the event, said PAP, under the leadership of Dr Otuaro, was “building a community of intellectuals.”

In his goodwill message, Senator Lokpobiri praised President Tinubu for his “love for Ijaw and the Niger Delta people.”

He also lauded the achievements of the PAP Administrator and expressed appreciation to the President for appointing him.

MEANWHILE, plans by the Nigerian government and Coventry University have reached an advanced stage to establish a campus of the institution in Nigeria through a Transnational Education (TNE) partnership.

This comes as the number of Nigerians studying in the United Kingdom between 2015 and 2025 rose to about 150,000.

Already, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, is currently in the United Kingdom accompanying President Bola Tinubu and engaging with UK university leadership, key investors and development partners to drive the initiative forward.

The Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

She revealed that the proposed campus, to be located in Alaro City, Lagos State, would offer Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM), Business, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

According to her, all degrees would be equivalent to those awarded in the United Kingdom, and admissions are expected to commence between the third and fourth quarters of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Speaking on the development, the Minister said: “We want Nigerian parents to enjoy having their children at home while still receiving a world-class UK education.

“The Federal Ministry of Education, with the support of the United Kingdom’s Department for Business and Trade, remains committed to expanding access to high-quality, globally competitive education and positioning Nigeria as a leading hub for knowledge, skills and innovation,” the statement noted.
