The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Friday, refuted claims of lopsidedness regarding the composition of federal appointments.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, recently released a list showing the appointments made so far by President Bola Tinubu from all six geo-political zones of the country.
This action followed accusations by Senator Ali Ndume from the northeast geo-political zone, who alleged that the President violated the law in his appointments.
In response to these allegations, Senator Akume stated in a release that all appointments under the current administration led by President Tinubu “are made in strict adherence to the federal character principle, as enshrined in Section 14 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”
According to the SGF, the President is a staunch advocate for Nigeria’s unity and is guided by the ideals of fairness and justice in all appointments.
Against this backdrop, the administration is committed to ensuring adequate representation of all regions and demographics in its institutions and agencies, he affirmed.
Senator Akume urged the public to disregard baseless speculations and rely on official government sources for accurate information.
He assured that the government remains resolute in its pursuit of a prosperous, united, and equitable Nigeria, consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration.
“We must not heed the divisive rhetoric of those who propagate baseless allegations of discord,” he emphasized.
According to a statement from his Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, inquiries regarding appointments should be directed to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the official custodian of such actions.
