Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme of the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed N25 million cash to 250 vulnerable persons in Niger State.
At the flag off at the Women Multi-purpose Centre, Minna, yesterday, Mrs Tinubu said the scheme was borne out of a steadfast commitment to the well-being of senior citizens.
Wife of Niger State governor, Fatima Bago, who represented the President’s wife, disclosed that each beneficiary received N100,000.
She added that the scheme was aimed at cushioning the effect of the hardship being experienced all over the country and to alleviate the burdens of senior citizens during the festive period.
She revealed that N950 million was approved by the governing board of the initiative, pointing out that each state of the federation is to receive N25 million, as the scheme is committed to ensuring that each state receives the sum without discrimination.
“I urge our senior citizens to enjoy life to the fullest, prioritise their health, nurture their minds and strengthen your bonds with loved ones and God,” Tinubu said.
Earlier, Bago, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Titi Auta, had hinted that apart from the 250 vulnerable persons approved by the initiative, the state government also approved 20 more vulnerable persons to benefit alongside from the goodies.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Hadiza Sheru, appreciated Mrs Tinubu for the gesture.
