Toddler seeks N2m for heart surgery

Nineteen-month-old Victoria Emmanuel, recently diagnosed with a major congenital heart disease, otherwise known as a hole in the heart, has seen enough pain in her short life better imagined than experienced.

The disease, which has made her chronically ill, has not only stunted her growth, but also made her look older than her age. She, however, requires N2 million from well-meaning Nigerians for a corrective heart surgery.

According to a medical report signed by a consultant pediatrics cardiologist at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Victoria has been managed medically with anti-failure medication and her condition has been complicated by failure to thrive despite optimal medical management. “As such, surgical repair of the defect is advocated.”

The toddler’s parent, Mr. and Mrs. Alekhue Emmanuel, in a chat with The Guardian appealed to Nigerians, non-governmental bodies, corporate organizations and state governments to help as they battle to save the life of their daughter.
