TotalEnergies builds new hospitals for army in Port Harcourt

To boost medical services of the Nigerian Army and improve their welfare, TotalEnergies has built, furnished and donated a 24-bed hospital block for the 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt.

The facility comprises three wards for children, women and men respectively, and it is aimed to reduce congestion in the existing wards and deliver quality medical care to army officers and their families.

The Managing Director/Country Chair of TotalEnergies, Mr Matthieu Bouyer, said the firm was inspired by the dedication and resilience demonstrated daily by the officers in protecting citizens, including Total personnel and facilities, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

He said safety is a core value for both the military and the firm.

The project was commissioned at the weekend in Port Harcourt barracks by the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, in the company of the Managing Director of TotalEnergies Upstream companies in Nigeria, Matthieu Bouyer, and Deputy Managing Director, Joint Ventures Assets, Oliver Cassossoles.

Bouyer said, “This facility is intended to provide a safe and supportive environment for soldiers and their families in times of need. Safety goes hand-in-hand with health and environment. Our commitment to health, safety and environment guides all we do.”

In his address, the GOC, 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emekah, said the project represented a key milestone in the Division’s commitment to the welfare of officers and their families while reflecting their robust partnership with TotalEnergies.

“The significance of this project is key. It’s not just a physical project; it signifies hope, care and compassion for our officers and their families. The facility will definitely enhance our capacity to deliver quality medical care to our personnel and their families, ease congestion in the existing wards and impact the patients’ comfort and recovery,” he said.

He commended TotalEnergies for building and equipping the medical edifice and pledged the Division’s commitment to sustaining their partnership with the company by continually protecting their assets in the Niger Delta.

He called on the Division’s medical team to ensure the maintenance of the hospital, which he said was a morale booster for them.

He added, “This project is not just a medical investment. It’s a morale booster and a reinforcement of our fighting spirit.”
