Trade minister unveils digital trade agenda, facilitation portal at Moonshot 2025

Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Odunowo, has outlined new policy measures aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness in the country’s trade sector through digital transformation.

Speaking at the Moonshot 2025 Conference held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, Dr Odunowo said the Federal Government’s trade reforms are designed to remove longstanding bureaucratic bottlenecks and position Nigerian businesses for sustainable growth in both local and international markets.

Central to these reforms, she explained, is the implementation of the National Single Window — a system that integrates multiple government agencies involved in trade into one digital platform.
“The National Single Window is one of the most consequential policies we are implementing,” she said. “It requires coordination across government and delivers a lot of transparency and efficiency in the movement of goods and services.”

Dr Odunowo said the initiative would simplify documentation, improve customs clearance, and reduce transaction delays at ports and borders. The system, she noted, reflects the government’s intention to create a more seamless trade process that supports productivity and curbs corruption.

The minister also announced the introduction of a Trade Facilitation Portal, which will serve as a digital hub for real-time trade data, market intelligence, and regulatory information.
“The Trade Facilitation Portal is about giving our businesses the tools they need — access to information, transparency, and the intelligence to trade smarter,” she said. “We are building systems that empower rather than obstruct.”

Addressing participants, Dr Odunowo urged Nigerian entrepreneurs to adopt data-driven strategies and focus their expansion efforts on markets where they can achieve sustainable results.
“Businesses must be strategic and focus on markets where they can win,” she advised. “It is not just about expansion; it’s about impact and sustainability.”

The Moonshot 2025 Conference brought together policymakers, investors, innovators, and business leaders to deliberate on strategies for accelerating Africa’s economic and digital transformation. Dr Odunowo’s remarks underscored the government’s broader commitment to policy coordination, digital infrastructure, and trade reforms that support inclusive growth.

She reiterated that effective implementation of digital tools across ministries would not only streamline trade processes but also strengthen Nigeria’s position within regional and global value chains.
