Zaria Central Mosque in Kaduna State collapsed yesterday evening, killing at least four worshippers while several others sustained injuries.

The victims were observing the Asr prayer around 4.00pm when the incident occurred.

Confirming the incident, the Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, said subsequent prayers would be held outside the mosque until further notice.

In line with the emir’s directive, the funeral prayer for the four victims of the incident was observed at 8.30pm at his palace yesterday.

“We had earlier observed a crack on the wall of the mosque yesterday, and were planning to deploy a team of civil engineers to effect repairs when this unfortunate incident happened,” Bamalli said.

While condoling with the family of the deceased, he directed that people should pray outside the mosque pending the repairs.
