Troops repel ISWAP, recover terror camcorder

Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have repelled an attempted attack by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State, recovering a camcorder and other items believed to be of significant intelligence value.

The encounter, which formed part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, reportedly ended with the terrorists retreating after they were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the troops.

Military sources said the recovered camcorder is suspected to have been used to record operational activities and produce propaganda materials for the terrorist group. Preliminary intelligence indicates that the device could contain valuable information capable of exposing the activities of foreign terror facilitators, logistics networks and other collaborators supporting the insurgents.

The equipment has since been handed over for forensic examination as investigators work to extract digital evidence that could aid ongoing operations, identify members of the network and disrupt future attacks.

The latest recovery comes amid sustained military offensives targeting ISWAP and Boko Haram enclaves across Borno and other parts of the North-East. Security forces have intensified clearance operations, intelligence-driven raids and patrols aimed at degrading the operational capabilities of terrorist groups in the region.

Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining pressure on the insurgents until lasting peace and security are restored, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
