Troops of Operation Forest Sanity have rescued 16 kidnapped victims during their operations along the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna road and Igabi Local Government Area in Kaduna state.

The state commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

“The troops responded to a distress call along the Udawa-Manini axis of the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Road. The troops arrived to foil the attack, rescuing 15 people in the process. Some of the rescued persons who sustained injuries were rushed to hospital for treatment,” Aruwan said.

“In response to credible intelligence of bandits’ movement around an interstate boundary area, troops set up ambush positions around Mangoro general area contact was made with the bandits, and one of the bandits was neutralized during the firefight.”

The commissioner stated that one of the captives was injured by the bandit and had been rushed to the Jaji cantonment hospital for treatment.

According to him, one AK47 rifle, one pump action gun, one explosive device, one baofeng radio, and 10 motorcycles were recovered.

Aruwan said the governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, commended the troops for the successful rescues and prayed for the quick recovery of injured victims.
