Two drown in Ogun as CP warns youths on safety limits

The victims were Femi Akinola, “m”, 32, from Odo Eran Itire, Lagos State, and Tunde Falade, “m”, 35, from Kola Alagbado in Lagos. According to Adeosun, some boys numbering about seven, who came from Lagos on August 27, for his church inauguration, left the church premises to swim, and got drowned in the process.
After they were rescued from the heavy tides, the victims were rushed to the Health Centre in Itori, where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
The Guardian learnt that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Itori, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Olayemi Jacob, upon receipt of the report, detailed his team to visit the scene, and ascertained that there were no marks of violence and no foul play suspected.
When contacted, spokesperson for Ogun State Police Command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, yesterday, stressing that the remains of the deceased have since been evacuated to Ifo General hospital for autopsy reports and later deposited in the same morgue.
Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Alamatu Abiodun, had extended the police condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
He assured that the Command remains committed to promoting public safety and preventing such tragedies in the future. He, however, warned youths to steer clear of rivers whose depth or tides they cannot ascertain.
