Two feared killed as gunmen strike in Rivers
TWO persons were yesterday feared dead and several injured, including a policeman, when gunmen struck in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The hoodlums reportedly shot sporadically along Ikwere Road by Emenike junction less than 700 metres away from the popular Mile 1 Divisional Police Station for over one hour.
People, including uniformed men were seen scampering for safety while the operation lasted.
The Guardian however gathered that some policemen were deployed to the scene few minutes later but no arrest was made.
Several persons, especially women who were heading for Mile 3 and Rumuokoro axis of the Garden City abandoned their wares in vehicles.
They were later seen weeping when normalcy returned as bus drivers had made away with their goods.
Contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer for the state command, Ahmed Mohammed who confirmed the incident said no death was recorded just as he noted that no arrest was made, adding that investigation had begun.
“No death was recorded but four persons, including a policeman, sustained injuries. No arrest made, incident is under investigation,” Mohammed said.
