Two killed in rival clash as protesters regroup in Kano

Two persons were reportedly killed following a clash between two rival gangs around the popular Zoo road in municipal local government area of Kano state.

The chaos began on Friday evening after the Tukuntawa boys and notorious Sheka gang resumed their long rivalry over supremacy, The Guardian gathered.

Eyewitness, Muhammadu Kamalu, who owns a barbing shop on Zoo road revealed that the entire neighbourhood was thrown into chaos when the Sheka gangs clamped down on their Tukuntawa rival.

Kamalu disclosed that the groups were seen wielding dangerous weapons left residents of Zoo Road scamper for cover. He added that it took the intervention of security operatives on curfew surveillance who chased away the Sheka group before peace was later restore.

Although the names of the victims could not be ascertained at the time of filing the report, it was gathered the Tukuntawa gang suffered high casualties after the clash.

Kano State Police spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa did not respond to text message for inquiry on the ugly development.

Meanwhile, the Guardian witnessed maximum deployment of military men at Tukuntawa junction, the bother line between the two communities.

Meanwhile, protesters regrouped in Kano and attempted to continue with the 10-day #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria demonstration despite the 24-hour restriction order imposed by the state government.

The groups were cited around Gwanmaja quarters in Gwale local, Tudun-Wada in Nassarawa local government and Gydi-Gydi area of Tarauni local government, all in the metropolis.

The protesters however could not sustain the match further as heavily armed security operatives deployed around the areas dispersed protesters, The Guardian was told.

“They came out in their numbers in Gwanmaja, Tudun-Wada, and Gydi-Gydi roundabout under Lador bridge. The intention was to continue with the protest, but thank God, the security operatives did not allow them. Remember the curfew is still in progress”. Abubakar Isah, a security operative disclosed.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday declared 24 24-hour curfew after the demonstration turned violent with hoodlums hijacked and unleashed terror.

The hijackers went on rampage the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Industrial Digital Park carted away computers, furniture and office appliances. The miscreants also ransacked premises of the state high court along state road where they destroyed Cars, and looted valuables in the judicial offices.
