Two Nigerians missing as NAHCON rejects Saudi meal service

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that two Nigerian pilgrims are missing while performing this year’s Hajj rituals in Saudi Arabia.
The missing pilgrims, Muhammad Muhammad (passport No. B05062275) and Ibrahim Iliyasu (passport No. B05062278), both from Sokoto State, were reported missing at Musdalifah, where over 1.7 million pilgrims spent the night.

According to the commission, efforts are ongoing to locate the missing pilgrims, while it has appealed for any useful information that could assist in tracing their whereabouts in the Holy Land.
Meanwhile, NAHCON has rejected a Saudi service provider over the poor standard of food supplied to Nigerian pilgrims in Mina on Wednesday.

The commission expressed regret that despite continued enforcement of food safety standards by Saudi health authorities to ensure the wellbeing of pilgrims, meals served to some Nigerian pilgrims on Wednesday failed required quality tests.
“As part of these routine health measures, some dinner meals from the night of 27th May 2026 did not meet the required handling and packaging standards and were therefore rejected immediately in collaboration with NAHCON,” the commission stated.

Although alternative light refreshments were provided, NAHCON Chairman, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, has directed the Security Committee to investigate the caterers and those involved in facilitating the contracts.
In a related development, the chairman also ordered the Central Security Committee to investigate and identify tour operators who allegedly brought in more pilgrims than officially registered.

He warned that at the conclusion of investigations, those found culpable would be sanctioned and have their licenses withdrawn.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Amirul Hajj, the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, led a delegation on a visit to pilgrims’ tents in Mina, Saudi Arabia, to convey Sallah greetings to the state contingents.

The delegation included the Deputy Amirul Hajj and Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz; the Chairman of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board and other board members; as well as the Director-General of the board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle.
This was contained in a statement issued by Mustapha Muhammad, Head of the Media Team for the Kano Hajj Operation 2026.

Addressing the pilgrims, the Amirul Hajj commended their orderly conduct and urged them to continue praying for peace and development in Kano State and Nigeria at large.
He also appealed to them to pray for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as for sustained peace, prosperity, and economic growth in the state.

At a separate gathering, the Director-General of the board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, announced that the 200 Saudi Riyals promised by the governor would be disbursed through centre officers upon the pilgrims’ return to Makkah.
He assured the pilgrims that the board remains committed to sustaining services that guarantee their comfort in the Holy Sites.

Earlier, three prominent Islamic clerics—Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, Sheikh Tijjani Bala Kalarawi, and Sheikh Abubakar Kandahar—delivered lectures on the significance of Hajj, its teachings, and spiritual benefits.
The clerics also prayed for Allah to accept the pilgrims’ Hajj and forgive their shortcomings.
