Two sisters and a man have lost their lives in a boat mishap in Boki Council of Cross River State.The incident happened when bubbling water from a newly constructed dam overflowed on Wednesday, November 29.

Two sisters and a man have lost their lives in a boat mishap in Boki Council of Cross River State.The incident happened when bubbling water from a newly constructed dam overflowed on Wednesday, November 29.The victims were travelling across the small Irruan River to the other side to help one Mr. Kuku in his cocoa farm, which was flooded when they met their untimely death. 

About 12 persons out of the 15 traveling in the wooden canoe remain unaccounted for.A community leader, Abang Peter, said the incident has brought sadness to residents even though the dam was initially a development that had ignited hope and happiness in their hearts.

According to him: “We strongly feel for the parents of the two girls. I only hope that God alone will console them, but it will take some time before our community can get over this. Meanwhile, we are not sure yet how many more bodies would be recovered from the water.

“We call on the authorities to intervene and see how to rework the dam to avert similar mishap in future.”Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Mr. John Inaku, could not be reached at the time of filling this report.
