Princess Bridget Tychus has been elected as the International Director for Constitutional Area 8 of the Lions Club International for a period of two years.

She was elected at the club’s 106th International Convention in Melbourne, Australia in June 2024, making her the first woman to attain such feat.

Speaking at a press conference in her honour in Ikeja, Tychus noted that her emergence as the first female International Director from Nigeria was not accidental but an effort of 12 years’ journey.

According to her, “It was like breaking the glass ceiling. I have been on it for twelve years until Africa was ready. It was like the goalpost kept changing. Anytime Nigeria thought we had it, the goalpost would change and another policy would be introduced.

“I must admit that nothing good comes easy because the process was difficult and tough but the tougher it became, the stronger and determined I became and the rest is history.”

She noted that over the years, Lions Club has been active in providing social interventions across the world for people facing challenges in health, hunger, education, among others.

While restating her commitment to the club’s agenda, she assured that with the support of the six district governors across the country, more focus would be placed on interventions to aid the vulnerable.

“Nigeria stands to gain a lot. Anywhere Lions function is being held in the whole of Africa and I walk in, Nigeria anthem must be played to signify that Nigeria is in charge. That alone speaks volume. That is to say that we are projecting Nigeria and it behooves on me as the ambassador to project the country in a more positive way because people are out there to disparage,” she added.

Besides, she promised to increase advocacy for dangers of drug abuse among the youths to help address the crisis.
