UBEC unveils three-year roadmap for basic education devt

Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, has unveiled a three-year development plan aimed at repositioning the basic education sub-sector in Nigeria.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer and Protocol of UBEC, Mr David Apeh, the commission noted that the strategic gathering, led by the Executive Secretary of the commission, brought together top officials from UBEC’s national, zonal, and state offices.

Apeh in the statement explained that the primary objective of the meeting was to align on the implementation roadmap for the UBEC 2025–2027 strategic blueprint and build consensus around refining the commission’s implementation plan, including robust measures to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation at all levels.

He added that the retreat was also aimed at reorienting management staff on critical leadership competencies to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen inter-departmental collaboration, and foster a culture of effective and accountable leadership across the commission.

The Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, emphasised the need for deeper collaboration among departments and with other relevant education Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

She underscored the importance of reviewing team structures and internal processes to strengthen institutional effectiveness and reaffirm UBEC’s collective commitment to delivering quality basic education nationwide.

Garba further noted that a key focus was the need to work collaboratively, to fulfil the commitment, especially by supporting states in developing context-specific work plans aligned with national priorities.

At the end of the retreat, officials reaffirmed their commitment to translate the strategic decisions into measurable actions to strengthen the basic education sub-sector and improve learning outcomes for every Nigerian child.
