UI VC gets committee on irrigation, drainage honorary membership
The Nigerian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage has conferred honorary membership of the committee on Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Kayode Adebowale.
The honour was conferred during a courtesy visit by participants at the national irrigation forum on institutional strengthening and management of public irrigation schemes/yearly general meeting of the committee to the VC in his office.
The leader of the team, Oyeronke Oluniyi, told the VC that the committee was in Ibadan for a workshop on strengthening and management of water resources in the irrigation schemes of Nigeria.
She said the committee sought to improve irrigation and drainage systems of the country with a view to impacting agriculture and food production for the people of the country.
Adebowale, who lauded the committee for its efforts to improve the standard of living of the people of Nigeria, urged it to consider the Israeli irrigation systems, which ensure that the country’s vegetation is green all year round despite Israel being a dry country.
