UN climate chief seeks action on COP29 pledges

Executive Secretary, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Simon Stiell, yesterday, tasked countries to turn commitments made at COP29 in Baku into real action.

Stiell made the plea at the second edition of Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW) holding from September 29 to October 3, 2025, in Azerbaijan.

The forum attracted UN top shots. The Climate Action Week aims to localise and accelerate the global climate agenda through practical, place-based action, showcase regional innovation and leadership on the green transition, including financial institutions, foster collaboration between public and private sectors, local and sub-national actors, academia, professions, youth, and civil society.

Other objectives include providing a multi-sectoral platform to advance sectoral transitions that promote growth, prosperity, and climate resilience.

He noted that two conditions were essential for success: creating project portfolios that reflect both national priorities and business interests, and building partnerships that bring together public and private capital with innovation and technology.
