UNICEF is working to lift Nigeria’s out-of-school children

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), says it will offer endless support to Jigawa to address the high number of out-of-school children in the state.

The UNICEF Chief Field Officer in Kano, Rahma Farah, made this known at a one-day commitment meeting with members of Jigawa State House of Assembly on Saturday in Kaduna.

He said that the number of out-of-school children in Jigawa was alarming, thus, needed a collective effort to address the situation.

Farah lauded the state house of assembly for its effort in changing the narrative in the state education system, adding that it had so far passed seven laws on education since its inception.

The chief field officer also acknowledged the commitment of the present administration, in establishing state Ministries of Basic Education, Higher Education and other education agencies.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Jigawa house of assembly, Alhaji Haruna Dangyatun, commended UNICEF for its multiple interventions in Jigawa.

Dangyatun pledged the commitment and support of the house in addressing issues disrupting the progress of education in the state.

According to him, improving education sector is a collective responsibility that needs multi sectoral approach.
He expressed delight over the viable development achieved in Jigawa with support from UNICEF and other development agencies brought to the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that UNICEF is supporting Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in its 2024 constituency based commitment, to reduce the number of out-of-school children.
