Members of University of Jos (UNIJOS) Alumni, Kaduna chapter, have bemoaned the gruesome murder of a female member of the National Youth Corps Scheme (NYSC), while on a routine physical exercise, by armed robbers in the state.
The officials of UNIJOS Alumni in a statement yesterday, said: “October 18, will go down in history as a very painful day as we woke up to the sad news of the murder of our member, Miss Chalya Silas, by marauders who are suspected to be phone snatchers, in the early hours of the day, while she was out jogging.
“Nigeria has lost a person who happened to be a very promising young lady, whom we are informed is the only daughter of a widow.
“We condemn in totality and in strong terms, the activities of unknown persons who have made it a trade to attack innocent citizens carrying out lawful duties or moving around peacefully just for personal aggrandisement.
“In as much as we don’t undermine the duties and efforts of the security agencies in trying to curb such occurrences, we urge them to fashion out new strategies to expeditiously halt these activities as they pose a great threat to peace and stability in our community.
“We urge the Commissioner of Police, the area commander Kakuri Division and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Barnawa Division to swing into action and unravel the syndicate behind these recurrent attacks.”
Also, officials of the NYSC in the Northwest Zone, at the weekend, visited the Kaduna Police Command, urging security operatives to ensure killers of Grace Silas are apprehended and brought to book.
The NYSC delegation led by the zonal director North West, Mr. Kehinde Aremu Cole, visited the Police Command to interface with the Police authority as a result of the killing of the female corps member.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Musa Yusuf Garba, has ordered a man-hunt of those responsible for the killing of the lady.
