Following a successful defence, the University of Lagos (UNILAG), is set to graduate an 82- year -old veteran journalist, Chief Dayo Duyile, author of the popular book “Makers of Nigerian Press” with a Ph.D. in Mass Communication.

Duyile who worked with various defunct newspapers and the finest editors like late Chief Lateef Jakande and Chief Segun Osoba finally fulfilled an age long dream.

Duyile was a former Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and founding Head of Department, Mass Communication of many universities including Elizade University, Joseph Ayo Babalola University and Adekune Ajasin University.

With a record of excellence in the academia, his Ph.D. thesis titled: “A Historiography of Emergence and Development of Early Newspapers in Nigeria” at the University of Lagos recounts and documented the early press and various development, was supervised by Prof Ismail Ibrahim.

Duyile will receive his PhD at the 53rd Convocation of UNILAG scheduled to hold on January 18, 2023, which also coincides with the 60th anniversary of the University.
