The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, has introduced a palliative initiative aimed at mitigating the impact of the recent fuel price increase on its members of staff.
According to the institution’s management, the move became imperative following the fuel price hike, which has triggered widespread economic strain across the country.
With the hike affecting the welfare and daily living conditions of the institution’s workforce, the
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Isaac Oluyi, stated that the management approved the disbursement of palliative support in line with the vice-chancellor’s commitment to prioritising staff welfare.
Oluyi said that the university had, in October 2025, commenced the payment of the new minimum wage to its workforce, further underscoring its commitment to staff welfare.
Vice Chancellor (VC) of the institution, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, while addressing a cross-section of members of staff, described the intervention as timely and much needed.
The VC said that the administration was fully aware of the economic difficulties members of staff are currently facing and understood the challenges that came with them.
Adejuyigbe, while emphasising that the welfare of workers remains a top priority, said that her administration would create a work environment that is supportive and helps workers thrive.
