The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, has introduced a palliative initiative aimed at mitigating the impact of the recent fuel price increase on its members of staff.
According to the management of the institution, the move became imperative following the fuel price hike, which has triggered widespread economic strain across the country.
With the hike affecting the welfare and daily living conditions of the institution’s workforce, the public relations officer of the institution, Isaac Oluyi, stated that the management approved the disbursement of palliative support, in line with the vice-chancellor’s commitment to prioritising staff welfare.
Oluyi disclosed that the university had, in October 2025, commenced the payment of the new minimum wage to its workforce, further underscoring its commitment to staff welfare.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, while addressing a cross-section of members of staff, described the intervention as timely and much needed.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the administration was fully aware of the economic difficulties that staff were currently facing and understood the challenges that came with it.
While emphasising that the welfare of workers remains a top priority, Adejuyigbe maintained that her administration is committed to creating a work environment that is supportive and helps them thrive.
“This palliative is a clear testament to my unwavering commitment to the welfare of our staff. You are the golden geese that lay the eggs, and it is only right that we take good care of you so you can continue to give your best.
“By introducing this intervention, we aimed to provide some relief and support to staff during this tough time.
If the staff were happy and motivated, they would do a better job, which would help the university succeed in both its academic and administrative goals.
“This benefit shows how much I care about our staff’s well-being. You’re the ones who make our organisation successful, and it’s only fair that we look after you so you can keep doing your best.”
“We will do everything we can to make our university the top choice for medical science education and a place where all employees can be proud to work.”
