Unknown gunmen kill customs officer in Katsina
Unknown gunmen have attacked a Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) checkpoint, where they shot and killed an officer in Katsina State.
The incident, which sources said occurred late last Wednesday night, happened at Faru village, along Zamfara Road, in Jibia Local Council of the state.
Though details of what happened are still sketchy, it was learned that the gunmen swooped on the Kwanar Dutse Customs checkpoint and opened fire on officials stationed there.
Sources were divided over what happened to his colleagues.
A source said they escaped and another said they were not at the checkpoint when the gunmen struck.
The incident came about a month after gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted two Customs officers in Jibia Local Council. They were, however, released about a week later. It was unclear if ransom was paid before their release.
NCS Spokesperson, in the state, Mr. Theophilus Duniya, said: “Sadly, we lost an officer. Details would be made available to you as soon as investigations are over.”
