USAID, LEAD Africa commence massive women empowerment in Agribusiness

The Federal Government said it has commenced domestication of the Malabo Declaration, which stipulates that 10 per cent of Nigeria’s budget be appropriated to the agricultural sector.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with Lead Africa, have commenced massive empowerment of women farmers and youth across the country in Agribusiness.

A Representative of Lead Africa Mrs. Lilian Adegboola, who spoke at the 5 day intensive training organised for women in Agribusiness yesterday in Abuja, disclosed that so far, they have trained 50 youths and 40 women, adding that there plans was to take the training to all states of the federation.

Adegboola said although funds would not be provided to the women to start their agribusiness, however they would equip them with relevant information that would help them access finance.

The USAID representative Mr. Roland disclosed plans to roll out grants to support agribusiness in the country.

He said the aim of the organisation was to support Nigerian government in power, Agriculture, water and sanitation and see how they can access finance to bdevelop the sectors.
