UWGN, Susty Vibes mark World Clean Up Day 2024 in 12 states

The United Way Greater Nigeria (UWGN), in collaboration with Susty Vibes, have spearheaded the commemoration of the World Clean Up Day with extensive cleanup efforts across 12 states in Nigeria, including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Kwara, Rivers, Imo, Enugu, Adamawa, Kaduna, Ebonyi, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The initiative was aimed at tackling waste management issues by cleaning public spaces, promoting recycling and educating communities about sustainable environmental practices.

The clean up exercise was a coordinated effort involving thousands of volunteers who came out in large numbers to participate in the global event, helping to clean up markets, schools, waterways, public parks and other key areas in their local communities.

Speaking about the event’s significance, Executive Director of UWGN, ‘Deola Durodola, said: “World Clean Up Day is not just about the physical act of collecting waste but about instilling a lasting sense of environmental stewardship in our communities. The remarkable turnout of volunteers across the country reflects a growing awareness of the need for sustainable practices and a collective commitment to protecting our environment for future generations.”

While speaking on the impact of the World cleanup day, Susty Vibes’ Head of Project, Sonia Ugwunna, said the exercise offers the firm a pivotal platform to reinforce its dedication to driving behavioural change and advocating for sustainable lifestyles that benefit both the planet and society.

“This year, we are proud to collaborate with UWGN on this year’s Street Conference, spanning 12 states across the country. Through this partnership, we are committed to ensuring that our efforts not only create immediate environmental impact but also foster long-term, positive change in communities nationwide,” Ugwunna said.
