Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has charged Southern monarchs to uphold societal values, promote peace and mediate conflicts among their subjects. Uzodimma gave the admonition, yesterday, when he hosted a delegation of the Council of Southern Traditional Rulers, led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, at the Imo State Lodge, Abuja.  He acknowledged the critical roles monarchs play in the wellbeing of the nation, including the promotion of peaceful co-existence of Nigerians.

The governor said that the meeting was crucial to foster unity, as well as address regional issues and progress.

Uzodimma reminded them that there is a need to embrace “collaborative governance and cultural preservation.”  Speaking, Ogunwusi, said that meeting Uzodimma was symbolic and result-oriented given the critical roles traditional institutions play in the country, commending the governor for hosting them.

Part of the communal resolution was to “strengthen the ties between the government and traditional institutions, paving the way for a more united and prosperous southern Nigeria.”
