To mark this year’s Children Day, Swansea University Alumni Nigeria has provided free medical services to over 1,000 residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The outreach, which was held at Junior Secondary School, Apo Resettlement, Abuja, also featured interactive sessions, medical consultation, screening, and community programmes for children and nursing mothers.
The programme’s scope included health promotion, eye and malaria checks, as well as distribution of malaria drugs and eyeglasses, free dental health services, and nutritional assessments.
President of Swansea University Alumni Nigeria, Oyeinkediton Churchill, noted that the event was a testament to the organisation’s commitment to giving back and making a positive impact on the lives of young people in the country.
While disclosing that the event was a pilot project, he said it would be replicated across the 36 states of the federation. Churchill said medical personnel from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Nigerian Red Cross Society and members of the association, who are health professionals, participated in the outreach.
Patron of the organisation, Abdullah Buka, commended the alumni for the initiative and their commitment to empowering the next generation. Also, the Director/Principal, JSS Apo Resettlement, Victoria Nwogu, lauded the association for choosing the school as the venue.
