Former Deputy National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, has lauded Taraba State governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for recognising the contributions of journalists and involving them in strategic appointments aimed at revamping the state and the sports sector in particular.
Moyoyo, who has been an active member of SWAN for over 35 years, made the commendation on Thursday in Jalingo while hosting members of the association’s state chapter. The visit was to congratulate him on his recent appointment as a member of the Taraba State Sports Commission.
According to him, Governor Kefas has shown uncommon support for journalists by appointing several media practitioners to key positions. “The governor has done so much for us. If we are people of conscience, we will continue to pray for him,” he stated.
Moyoyo reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to partnering with SWAN to promote sports development in the state. He also urged the association’s leadership to fill vacant positions with dedicated members and ensure proper registration and prompt payment of dues to strengthen its structure.
He pledged to work closely with the association to enhance both sports reporting and administration in Taraba State.
In his remarks, the state chairman of SWAN, Jude Nuhu Gundale, expressed the association’s satisfaction with the governor’s gesture, describing it as a bold step toward transforming the state’s sports landscape.
“We are here to identify with you. SWAN is happy with this development, and we have resolved to work closely with you. A lot of people in the state have seen your contribution to sports development, and we applaud the governor for deeming it fit to appoint our members. Our doors are always open, and we are assuring you of 100 per cent support,” Gundale said.
The appointments, he added, reflect the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and the revitalisation of the sports sector in Taraba State.
