Viral Video: Lagos police deny arresting man for wearing dreadlocks

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a report that its operatives arrested a man in the Egbeda area of the state for wearing dreadlocks.

The allegation was tabled against the command by an online platform which also stated that the operatives accused the suspect of looking like a fraudster.

A video of the arrest was shared with the caption, “Man cries for help as police officers allegedly a§§ault and arrest him in Egbeda, Lagos, for having dreads and looking like a fra¥dster.”

Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, described the report as “false, misleading and malicious.”

He revealed that the suspect, Femi Imoleayo, was arrested at Bassey Street based on complaints from residents about the activities of young men abusing and selling drugs openly.

“The police responded and the young man was indeed caught with hard drugs. Due to his resistance and struggle, minimal force was used to subdue him.

“He alongside others arrested will be prosecuted accordingly,” he said.
