Visually-impaired persons during their training on digital technology

Members of the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind, Oshodi, Lagos at the weekend concluded a training on digital technology skills to enhance their digital literacy, employability opportunities and help them develop their social and relationship skills.

The training, conducted by Sifax Group in collaboration with the Initiative for National Growth Africa (INGA), in two sessions saw the visually-impaired persons trained on Microsoft properties, Google products, and Internet Governance to promote policies on technology rights for the visually-impaired.

Principal, Society for the Blind, Nicholas Obot, commended the project, which he said will expose the vision-impaired community to various technical opportunities that will equip them for employment and access to opportunities.

The Corporate Affairs Manager, Sifax Group, Muyiwa Akande, said the firm would continue to promote potentials of persons with disabilities through education, skill development and employment. Lagos AIDS Control Agency, represented by Dr. Sule Omolola, provided free HIV screening and consultation. Other supporting organizations include Willfran Consulting Limited, ARPG Tech, Calal Global, Sharkbite Foods, Easy Loans Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries, Andela and Metal Interactive Hub.

Executives of INGA present were Racheal Inegbedion, Amanda Obidike, Wonu Akintunde, Amdi Salam, Abiodun Oyeniran and Tosin Oyebolu.

Inegbedion, team lead of INGA said the project with the Society for the Blind seeks to strengthen the vision-impaired participation in technology and leadership roles so they can be integrated to technical internships and technology entrepreneurial works.
