Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has advocated a negotiation of critical infrastructure development in the Southern part of the country, stressing that ethnic nationalities in the three southern geopolitical zones should channel their energies to the improvement of much infrastructure in the area.

Okechukwu made the call while addressing a mini-social awareness rally at Awgu local government council of Enugu State, yesterday.  He called on Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, Afenifere, Ijaw National Congress and all agitators for restructuring or separation to agitate for social infrastructure.

The VON DG, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said: “My brothers and sisters and esteemed party members, may I once more appeal to Ohanaeze, Afenifere, Ijaw National Congress, and by extension all the agitators for restructuring or separation to agitate and negotiate for critical physical and social infrastructure with President Muhammadu Buhari, rather than the current feverish agitation for restructuring or outright secession.”

He said he was not against the trimming of the Exclusive Legislative List as contained in the 1999 Constitution “so as to shed some federal powers to the states and local government councils.”

Okechukwu said, “the causative factor, which regrettably simulated the current heightened agitation for restructuring or secession is crass and unbridled corruption.”
