Accreditation and voting have commenced at various polling units in Kurmin Mashi and Badiko areas in Kaduna South Local Government as residents return to the poll for Governorship and State House Assembly elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that voting started at Polling Unit 001, Sarki Avenue at 003 Mashi Road and 005 Government
College within the area at 8.47 a.m.

The Electoral Officer of 003 Mashi Road, Gideon Ekeh, who said his team arrived at the unit at 7.30 a.m., attributed the early commencement of voting to the early release of election materials.

Ekeh said that the Card Reader in his unit was perfect, as the electorate queue for accreditation and voting.

Similarly, voting commenced at Sarki Avenue in Kurmin Mashi 001 Polling Unit at 8.45 a.m., while the process
started at the 004 LEA Primary School at 8.35 a.m.

Some residents seen at the polling units said they had already voted at 8.40 a.m. and were going back to their homes.

Mrs Laraba Ankwa, a retired police officer, Peter Antep, a security guard and Auwal Musa, a motorcycle operator,
said they voted at polling unit 003 and were leaving for their homes.

They described the exercise as smooth and peaceful but complained of the low turnout of voters in the area they voted.

In most polling units, the electorate was seen waiting for their turns for accreditation and voting.

NAN reports that the exercise is peaceful, with security personnel in most polling units observing from distance.
