VP Shettima to visit Nasarawa on Friday

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima is scheduled for a one-day working visit to Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Friday, January 3, 2025.

This was disclosed during a joint press briefing by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Mr. Ibrahim Addra; the Humanitarian Commissioner, Mrs. Margaret Elayo; and the NASIDA Chairman, Mohammed Abdullahi, at the NUJ Press Center, Lafia.

According to Addra, Vice President Shettima will participate in four major official engagements, including the graduation of over 1,000 trained technicians at the Wing Commander Ibrahim Abdullahi Vocational and Technical Institute, with trainees drawn from across the country.

NASIDA Chairman Abdullahi added that the Vice President will perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Nasarawa Investment Development Agency (NASIDA) head office and the Multi Outdoor Court, funded by the World Bank through a $4 million facility.

The Commissioner of Agriculture, Hon. Eyimoga, stated that the Vice President will also hand over tractors to local government chairmen, distribute rice seedlings, and provide relief materials to internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by floods.

“The VP is interested in ensuring that the rice cultivation in Jangwa is sustained and not limited to one season,” Eyimoga said.

Additionally, the Chairman of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Eyimoga Mohammed, explained that tractors and rice seedlings procured will be distributed to all local governments to replicate what is being done in Jangwa and Agwatashi, covering between 500 and 1,000 hectares to boost food surplus in the state.

Governor Abdullahi Sule revealed that the state government has received about N3 billion from the Federal Government to support flood victims and IDPs. Most of the relief items to be distributed have been procured by NASEMA and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.

Mrs. Elayo, the Humanitarian Commissioner, stated that the Vice President will participate in the distribution of food items, building materials, and wrappers to over 2,000 flood victims across the state.

As part of the itinerary, the Vice President is also expected to pay homage to the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Muhammad Bage (rtd).

The government appealed to the people of the state for support to ensure the success of the Vice President’s visit.
